Ulm/Brighton. An S 416 GT-HD belonging to coach operator "Crusader Holidays", based in Clacton-on-Sea, was voted "Coach of the Year 2008" at this year's UK Coach Rally in Brighton, England. This is already the third year in a row that a customer of Setra - the Ulm-based bus and coach manufacturer owned by Daimler AG - has received this distinction. In all, this is the 14th award Setra has been able to reap since the market launch of the Ulm-built coaches in the UK 26 years ago.
Apart from the title of "Coach of the Year 2008", Setra won two more prizes for the S 416 GT-HD of the ComfortClass 400 in this year's competition in the south of England. Coach operator "Galloway European" won a traditional event with this model, and "Edwards Holidays" received the Cymru Trophy, which is awarded each year to the best coach in Wales.
A model of the current Setra TopClass 400 touring-coach generation was also among the winners: with an S 415 HD, the London bus operator "City Circle" took the LTCOA Challenge Trophy.
ComfortClass 400 presented for the first time in England in 2005
The award-winning S 416 GT-HD belongs to the ComfortClass 400, presented in 2004, with which Setra caters for the touring and excursion market segments. In 2005 the S 415 GT-HD, with a length of 12.20 metres, and the 13.02-metre-long Setra S 416 GT-HD, were presented for the first time in the UK in their right-hand-drive versions. Thanks to a newly-implemented length concept, the Ulm‑based coach manufacturer was able to make effective a 200 mm increase in length in this model series. This makes for more space in the front entry area, facilitating passenger movement and thus increasing economy. Since the introduction of the ComfortClass 400, Setra has been able to sell around 170 units in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
