Lamborghini has announced full details on their new V12 engine, which will be offered with the next Murcielago.

The tradition demands and it is naturally aspirated 6.5 litter know as the L539. The total power is 700PS (515kW) at 8250RPM and 690Nm of torque available at 5500RPM.

The new engine was developed by Lamborghini at its Sant'Agata Bolognese facility. The cylinder bank is 60 degrees so the whole engine is very compact - measuring 665 millimeters tall, 848 mm wide and 784 mm in length.

The bore diameter is 95 mm and the cylinder stroke is 76.5 mm. The overall mass of the monster is just 234kg, 24.6 of which is the nitride-hardened crankshaft.

The gearbox is also newly developed and features ISR - Independent Shifting Rods. This is a 7-speed single clutch gearbox with exceptionally quick shift times due to the independent shifting rods. Of course, the weight is crucial, so the ISR transmission weighs just 70kg. It features three driver settings - Strada, Sport and Corsa mode. The last is made for high-performance driving that also includes a launch control function.
