2012 Volkswagen Up - 5 stars from Euro NCAP [video]
2012 Volkswagen up! has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating during a series of tough crash tests. It turns that the new up! is the safest small city car in the world. Furthermore, it benefits from a class-leading 1E group insurance rating.
Volkswagen up! is priced from just £7 995 for the entry level – take Up! coming with a 1.0 liter 60PS engine. It also features good standard equipment - body-coloured bumpers, daytime running lights, front and side head/thorax airbags, RCD 215 CD radio with aux-in, rear ISOFIX points and 14" steel wheels.
The Move Up! trim level is also very cheap - £8 970 and adds remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows, easy-entry seats, a height-adjustable driver's seat, variable-height load floor and 60:40 split/fold rear seats. All these extras are standard for the bigger cars, so you have to consider buying this one, not the entry level.
The top-of-range High Up! is priced at £10 390 and it has a 1.0 liter 75PS engine. The equipment is very rich - heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake grip, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, the Maps & More personal infotainment device and a choice of dashboard colour. From the outside, the High up! is distinguished by its front fog lights and 15" alloy wheels.
To ensure that customers continue to benefit from great value even after they've driven their new up! out of the showroom, Volkswagen's three-year/60 000-mile fixed price servicing plan is available for just £299.
The up! is available to order now, with the first UK customer deliveries due in March 2012.
