Chrysler will bring the Fiat 500EV to US in 2012
Chrysler revealed its intentions to build and manufacture a pure electric ride based on the Fiat 500 platform. Publicly premiered earlier this year at the famous 2010 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS), the urban Fiat 500EV shows perfectly the harmonious alliance between Chrysler Group and the Fiat Group as well as the speed at which the two manufacturers can work together on advanced vehicle programs.
Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President Engineering—Chrysler Group LLC says "The alliance with Fiat presented new opportunities to merge Chrysler Group engineering knowledge with new platforms and the Fiat 500EV is an outstanding example of our efforts. The Fiat 500 is a small, lightweight platform perfect for integrating electric-vehicle technology."
At the start of 2012, Chrysler Group will produce the Fiat 500EV for the US market. All development and engineering processes are scheduled for Chrysler Group's main factory in Auburn Hills, Mich. The price tag of the future compact eco-friendly ride is still mysterious, but the PRs at Chrysler say it will be competitive with similar electric vehicles in the market.
