Corvette celebrates its 50th anniversary in the 24 Hours of Le Mans
This year, the renowned sports cars badge Corvette is celebrating its 50th anniversary of participation in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race competition. The official celebrations will be kicked off today at the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway bringing together historic Corvette Le Mans race cars from the 1960s, their iconic drivers, and the championship-winning Corvette Racing team.
At the Saturday's American Le Mans Series Monterey, the brand's fans will be able to give the Compuware Corvette C6.R race cars a favourable send-off before their transatlantic journey to Europe, France for the world's most prestigious sports car race on June 12-13.
Doug Fehan, Program Manager Corvette Racing shares: "For many years we have talked about the legacy of Corvette Racing and the role that the team plays in Corvette's history. The reason this is important today is because of the strong foundation that people like Dick Thompson, Dick Guldstrand, Zora Arkus-Duntov, and many others built for Corvette. They set the bar high, and they accomplished so much with so little. Today we have the full resources of Chevrolet and GM behind Corvette Racing, but these pioneers are the ones who truly began Corvette's performance heritage. Corvette Racing is continuing to build on that foundation for those who will come after us."
