The Rebirth of Acura ILX Sports Sedan
Acura finally uncovered its restyled, re-engineered and reborn 2016 ILX sports sedan at the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show. The enhancements and tweaks run more than skin deep for the new Acura ILX is now stronger, with better dynamics, unusual automatic transmission and improved interior.
Initially, the currently running ILX model comes with a choice of either a 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter i-VTEC engine. The new 2016 Acura, though, is discarding the smaller engine and makes the 2.4 one standard across the board. Even though the 2.4-liter direct-injected engine states the same 201 hp at 6,800 rpm, the torque rates grow from 170 to 180 pound-feet at 3,600 rpm.
The ILX gets an 8-speed dual clutch transmission with a torque converter and paddle-controlled Sequential Sport Shift. According to Acura, this is the first of its kind and most advanced automatic transmission which ensures lightning quick, crisp and intuitive gear shifts, thus, including rev-matching down shifts, to achieve remarkable response and sporting performance with excellent fuel efficiency. The world's first DCT with a torque converter, Acura's 8-speed DCT provides smoother and more powerful launches that other DCTs cannot really compete with.
Among the restyled and improved features is the new ILX A-SPEC package that includes a sporty side sill garnish, trunk spoiler, front fog lights and new 18-inch, 10-spoke machined alloy wheels with gloss black insets. What is more, the ILX body and chassis benefit from highly important engineering alterations that highlight collision safety, increase body rigidity, provide with better cabin quietness and improve sporty handling performance.
What contributes to the new Acura's technological equipment is the Homelink remote as well as the Acura's On-Demand Multi-Use Display (ODMD) with upper 8-inch display screen and lower 7-inch touchscreen. The new touchscreen connectivity and media system receive above 50 design changes which improve the intuitive operation and functionality.
2016 Acura ILX is going to be launched at Acura dealerships nationwide in early 2015.
