Idris Elba, the star of Luther and The Wire broke the historic "Flying Mile" UK speed record, previously set by Sir Malcolm Campbell back in 1927. The Award-winning actor achieved the top speed of 324 km/h (180 mph) with the Continental GT Speed. The previous record was measured at 320 km/h (174.8 mph) nearly a century ago with the legendary Napier-Campbell Blue Bird. Elba's record was independently verified by the UK Timing Association.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the record was broken during filming for the upcoming Discovery Channel series, named Idris Elba: No Limits, which will be launched in July.
The car itself features a 6.0-Liter twin-turbo W12 engine and develops the stunning 635 hp (466 kW) and 820 Nm. The powerplant is especially designed to work perfectly with the ZF eight-speed close-ratio automatic transmission and together they achieve the incredible acceleration: from 0 to 100km/h (62 mph) the beast goes for 4.0 seconds. And with this fast start it chases the top speed of 331 km/h (206 mph).
And with Bentley's tradition, the incredible performance is matched with ehanced chassis with fine tuned springs, anti-roll bars and height. This adjusted features, along with the retuned electronics ensured incredible performance, and as we noticed, they are capable of braking records!
