The first BMW X5 was introduced in 1999, it’s code is E53. Since it was put on sale, the big SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) became an instant hit. X5 was better in every single point compared to the direct rival – Mercedes-Benz ML. The BMW had better engines, better handling, more aggressive look and it was also better off the road. Because of all these good aspects, BMW didn’t wait too much and refreshed the X5 at 2003 with the introduction of the xDrive – one of the best four wheel-drive systems

It was confirmed today that the BMW X1 is planned to debut in the United States in calendar year 2011. The X1 has been conceived with the flexibility to offer traditional rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive configurations, as well as a wide variety of gasoline and diesel powertrain choices. Outstanding driving dynamics and unique design made the BMW X6 the clear favourite of the "Off Road" specialist magazine readership. Winning by a clear margin, the first Sports Activity Coupe in the world scored top marks in the "Four by Four of the Year 2009" competition's "Crossover" category. The finishing touches to the BMW X models' success story were added when the BMW X5 was selected third in the "Luxury SUV" category.
